Designing Voltige: Jewelry That Moves
Inside the collection that took cues from watchmaking: hidden springs, eleven-part articulation, and stones that tremble.
Most jewelry is architecture. Voltige is choreography. The brief we set ourselves was simple to say and brutal to execute: every piece must move with the body, and the mechanism must be invisible.
We borrowed from watchmaking — blued steel springs, jewelled pivots — and from the 18th-century tremblant brooches that shivered in Marie Antoinette's hair. Modern CAD found the tolerances; hands still make the parts.
The test for every prototype is the same. An artisan wears it for a day in the workshop. If anyone hears it, it fails. Movement should be seen, never heard.
